To God Be the Glory

Story Behind the Song

“Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!” Psalm 115:1

This song was written in conjunction with our church family moving into our current building in October of 2022. It is a declaration of all that God has done in and through Jesus Christ, and our commitment and desire to give him the glory alone. Each verse highlights a different aspect of God’s kindness to his people, a) rescuing us from the slavery of sin to his freedom, b)  leading us out of the domain of darkness to the kingdom of heaven, and c) giving us the privilege of following him and proclaiming this good news.

Lyrics

Who are we, that the LORD, would choose to go before us?

His mighty hand, and outstretched arm, have led us to salvation

From slavery to blessing, From famine to his feast

To God, to God be the glory forever

For the works, he has done

For his goodness and mercy

To God be the glory alone.

Who are we, that the LORD, would call us to his kingdom

Those without hope, he made his own, the citizens of heaven.

From enemies to family, hostility to peace.

Who are we, to proclaim, the matchless name of Jesus

A priceless gift, to go with Him, wherever He may lead us

Now in our every labor, May Christ be on our lips

Our boast and our ambition, our song alone be this
