Song of Endless Ages
Story Behind the Song
“Song of Endless Ages” is an upbeat anthem that tells of the preeminence of Christ, his life on earth, and his resurrection from death. The first verse considers Christ’s glory and reign that spans all of creation and history, the second verse exults in Christ’s humility that we see his incarnation, and the third and fourth verses celebrate his death and resurrection. The chorus and bridge respond to these thoughts by inviting us to join the song of the saints and angels before God’s throne in Revelation 4, declaring his holiness and worthiness over all the earth.
Lyrics
There is a Kingdom that won’t be shaken;
a reign that spans the earth and sky
Angels and elders bowing before him,
the Son of Heaven lifted high.
behold the King of Exaltation!
lift up your praise and adoration.
one name, enthroned upon our praises;
sing loud the Song of Endless Ages!
there in the darkness the Word Incarnate
from endless glory here to dwell
his throne abandoned the angels anthem,
“Behold your King, Immanuel!”
Holy, holy are you Lord!
Let the earth repeat again and again.
mocked and rejected, scorned and detested
the Man of Sorrows, crucified;
faithful companions turn and abandon.
the friend of Sinners left to die.
the dawn is breaking, the stone is shaking
the stench of death is ripped away
the saints astounded their song resounds
that “Jesus has risen from the grace!”
